Submission Deadline: June 1, 2010.
Cover letter should be in the form of a ONE-page query letter that offers a brief synopsis of the work including genre, word count and author bio. Submit FOUR copies of the first 12 pages of your manuscript.
Contest is open to all genres (please, no erotica) and is not exclusive to attendees of The Writers' Police Academy.

The Don Knotts Silver Bullet Contest Award winner will receive The Silver Bullet Award, free Writers' Police Academy registration ($235 value), and have the opportunity to submit their entire manuscript to one of the judges. Winner of the Silver Bullet Novel Writing Contest will also win free attendance to an Algonkian Conference. Algonkian holds a dozen or so conferences per year including the San Francisco Write and Pitch Conference (W&PC) and the New York Pitch and Shop Conference. For the smaller, one-on-one intensives like those in Algonkian Park and Fisherman's Wharf, the winner would have a credit of $600 towards the conference since lodging is part of the conference fee. http://www.algonkianconferences.com/conferences.htm

THE 2008 PARADIGM NOVEL CONTEST (sponsored by Rain Farm Press)

Entry Fee: $20 (USD) per manuscript
Deadline: July 31, 2008
Prize: The contest winner will receive:

- An interview and excerpt feature in the October issue of Paradigm, our

art-literary journal
- Three (3) free copies of their book
Restrictions: Manuscripts must be previously unpublished. 35,000-word
minimum.
No simultaneous submissions.

ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to any novel manuscript that has not been published.
Employees of Rain Farm Press, its subsidiaries and affiliates, and members of
their
families and households are not eligible. Foreign-language manuscripts and
translations are not eligible.

FORMAT FOR SUBMISSIONS BY MAIL
1. An electronic version of the novel must be made available if selected as
the
winner.
2. Manuscripts should be a minimum of 35,000 words. Include a brief
synopsis with your cover letter.
3. Each manuscript should have a cover page listing the title of the work
and the author's name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.
The title should also appear on each manuscript page.
4. Manuscripts should be typed doublespaced on 8 1/2" by 11",
good-quality white paper, and pages should be numbered consecutively.
The type should be easy to read; preferably 12-point. The author should
retain a copy of any manuscript submitted.
5. Photocopies are acceptable if readily legible and printed on good
quality white (not gray) paper. Partial or illegible entries will not be
acceptable.
6. Do not submit manuscripts in boxes. Padded envelopes are perfectly
fine. The publisher is not responsible for late, lost, misdelivered, or
misplaced submissions.
7. Please enclose a business-size stamped, self-addressed envelope for
notification only. Please do not enclose checks for postage. Due to new
postal regulations, the publisher cannot return any manuscripts. All
submissions will be recycled by Rain Farm Press after they are read.
8. Include a check for $20, payable to Rain Farm Press, or use the link
below for payment.

MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS
1. Manuscripts sent to Rain Farm Press may not be submitted to other
publishers or literary agents while under consideration for the prize.
2. Authors may not submit more than two manuscripts to the novel
competition; both must meet all eligibility requirements.

DATES FOR SUBMISSION
1. Manuscripts must arrive and/or be postmarked after March 7, 2008, but no
later
than July 31, 2008.

JUDGING
1. The judges are the editors of Rain Farm Press and bestselling novelist
Raymond
Benson.
2. The judges' decision will be final.
3. The editors of Rain Farm Press are unable to offer critiques of
manuscripts or enter into correspondence about the manuscripts other
than with the winning author.
4. The winner will be announced by September 15, 2008.

PRIZE DETAILS
The winner will receive a cash prize of $500; publication and distribution of
their
book through Rain Farm Press in Winter 2008; an interview and excerpt feature
in
the October issue of our journal Paradigm; and three (3) complimentary copies
of
their book. A standard publishing contract will be given.

CONTEST FEE
The fee for this contest is $20 per manuscript. You may send a check to Rain
Farm
Press, or click the button below to submit payment (via credit, debit, or
PayPal
account) to accompany your submission. No manuscript will be considered
without
the contest fee.
